The muddled interlayer generally refers to the interlayer which has loose structure, weak intergranular junction and full argillization in the physical and chemical process for a long time after the diastrophism and crush in the thin layer containing shale rock formation by means of interbedded structure. The muddled interlaver in rock mass is the structural plane which has the worst physico-mechanical properties or engineering characteristics, which is also the main weak face to control the stability of rock mass, and it has always been the focus of research for engineering.This paper conducts a study of undisturbed samples and reshaped samples of the muddled interlayer about shear strength and mollification by testing on the basis of consolidation test. At the same time, it emphasized the introduction of the mining of undisturbed samples of the muddled interlayer, making up the reshaped samples indoor and indoor saving for undisturbed samples and reshaped samples.In the test, it mainly conducts a study on three kind of muddled interlayer including muddled interlayer in red bed, muddled interlayer in carbonaceous shale and muddled interlayer in red clay. It is different of shear strength, water ratio and granularity element among this three kind of muddled interlayer. The water ratio is determined, and an analysis of granularity element is condcted on the basis of consolidation test, which could make us master it’s physical and mechanical properties. Their shear strength parameters and strength mollification characters are tested by fast cuts and repeated fast cuts on direct shear apparatus through quite overall consolidation test which can make a study on the engineering property index of muddled interlayer. In the meantime, it conducts a study and comparison on the influence of different water ratio with the shear strength and mollification character in muddled interlayer through making up reshaped samples with different water ratio.
