Electronic Stability Program (ESP) is a kind of automobile active safety system forkeeping the car stability by controlling the manufacturing power of wheels and engine outputtorque to work with drivers to mutually finish the control of cars under limited conditions.At present the research on ESP is mainly the research of control strategy. There are fewresearches about how to evaluate the performance. Now about the ESP performanceevaluation, the researchers almost use the handling test methods and according to itsprinciple, the sine with the dewell test rose in FMVSS126regulations,the fishhook test,Single/double move line change lane test are put forward. Finaly, a more perfect objectiveevaluation is formed. However, the subjective evaluat ion is not carried out yet. According tothe public paper, the subjective method based on the feelings of car evaluation teacherslacking of standards and fairness.By following the manipulation intention of the driver, ESP controls cars’ sidelongitudinal motion and keeps the car stability under the controlled range on the road.Different from ABS and TCS system, the result participated by drivers during the wholeprocess can produce man-machine interactive feedbacks and finally finish the propertycontrol of vehicle dynamics. Therefore, the drivers’ receptivity to ESP and mutualcooperation are the key to ESP.Recently, in the engineering science fields, performance design issues during thecooperation of men and automatic systems have become the research focus. The traditionalergonomics only pay attention to product designs from the angle of physiology and ignorethe men’ psychology. With the development of experimental psychology, some researchershave raised complete experimental psychology system and have been testified in navigationand aviation fields.Aiming at limitations of performance evaluation methods on the shortage of thecooperation of drivers and ESP during the ESP performance evaluation, the experimentalpsychology is introduced into ESP performance evaluation and an ESP performance evaluation system which takes drivers’ psychological factors into consideration is put up.Since most test conditions are limited ones and have certain risks and high repeatability ofsubjective psychological test scene, our team built Driver in the Loop (DIL) test-bench.Besides, ESP system control strategy developed in winter and summer filed tests and typicalconditions adopted in the tests are transplanted into DIL. Finally, using ESP control strategyfixes control threshold value by considering testers’ subjective scores which are achievedunder the ESP evaluation method based on experimental psychological index. It is testifiedcorrectness and feasibility.
