Recently, rapid growth of freeway mileage and vehicle population had brought us hugeconvenience, however, it had also led to serious freeway traffic accidents. Our trafficmanagement department’s statistics shows that more than90%of road traffic accidents aredue to the driver factors and a few are caused by the vehicle factors and road factors. Amongthem, driver’s awareness, decision making and behavioral errors are primary causes of trafficaccidents.Drivers determine vehicle operation states and traffic environment, then judge thedangerous, make decisions and take actions. Most drivers driving on freeway have fatiguedriving, speeding driving, overtaking violation, frequently lane changing, lack ofconcentration and so on. Therefore, study on the risk of driver’s adverse driving behavior onfreeway is significantly important to reduce freeway traffic accidents, ensure lives andproperty safety of drivers and passengers and develop freeway soundly and rapidly.In order to research the risk of freeway adverse driving behavior, firstly, this articleanalysised the formation mechanism of driving behavior in process of perception-determine-decision from the driver’s physical and visual, described the causes of adverse drivingbehavior on the freeway; classified freeway adverse driving behavior driving behavior basedon its formation mechanism, determined classification of highway driving behavior,analysised characteristics of various of adverse driving behavior and extracted risk factors ofadverse driving behavior.Secondly, classify major freeway adverse driving behavior as fatigue driving, speedingdriving, overtaking violation, frequently lane changing, across lane driving, turn driving withhigh speed, lack of concentration, dangerous driving and so on. Collected adverse drivingbehavior and the driver’s physiological and visual data from experiments, analysised thechange law of driver’s physiological and visual parameters, explored the risk rating of thedriver’s adverse driving behavior, and established the risk model of adverse driving behavior.Then made F, t hypothesis tests for driver’s physical and visual indicators of adversedriving behaviors, extracted evaluation indicators of six adverse driving behaviors accordingto driver’s physical and visual indicators, and established the model between adverse drivingbehavior and driver’s physiological and visual parameters. Finally, established the fuzzy evaluation model of adverse driving behavior based onvisual and physiological indicators, got the weight of drivers’ main adverse drivingbehaviors by using expert estimation method, obtained the danger rating using maximumvalue method by doing two matrix based on MATLAB and defined the threshold of risklevels.
