The urban rail transit will gradually multiply from single operation stage to network operation stage, which should greatly improve its effectiveness and increase passengers’conveniences and accessibility. But the operation network’s formation promotes some new problems and challenges and this applies particularly to passenger flow, which is urban rail transit operation network’s flow media. Passenger distribution characteristics are of the fundamental nature of the passenger flow research and passenger congestion transmission is the most remarkable phenomenon in the stage of network operation, both of which may give rise to directly effects on operation organization, operation management, resource allocation for the urban rail transit network. So it is a positive advantage to pay more attention to the two kinds of characteristics.(1) Analyzing the distribution characteristics of passenger flow for urban rail transit operation network. By processing the fundamental data of passenger flow for urban rail transit operation network in Beijing and Guangzhou, the thesis analyzes the passenger flow distribution characteristics based on time changing from three levels, namely:passenger flow based on different hours, days and weeks. And then the thesis makes an analysis in detail on passenger flow distribution based on space changing from four levels, namely:different lines, peak cross-section directions, transfer directions and entrance-exit directions.(2) Building station topological structure model for urban rail transit operation network, and probing into the complex characteristics of the network topological structure. By the introduction of graph theory, the paper makes up urban rail transit operation network station topological structure model, which regards a station as an single node and a track line as an connected edge. Based on complex network theory and combined with urban rail transit operation network’s feature, the one modifies two of the static statistic characteristics of complex network theory and conducts an empirical analysis by making Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou as an example. The results show that this type of operation network is of significant scale-free characteristics, that is growth and preferential attachment.(3) Building passenger flow congestion transmission model named SIR for urban rail transit operation network, and simulating passenger congestion spreading behavior, and achieving passenger congestion propagation rule. Based on urban rail transit operation network station topology model and from the point of urban rail transit operation, the paper processes the network spreading nodes and analyzes the influence factors of propagation speed and recovery speed, and then, makes an simulation in terms of different operation features in station and several stations happen to congestion at the same time. The results show that passenger congestion spreading of urban rail transit operation network is of volatility and convergence.
