Light-weight steel structure (LWSS) brings new design and construction methods to modern architecture development. It has obvious advantages especially in the field of industrial building design. Its features such as rich external design and reasonable structure stress can fully meet the demand of industrial plant for production, storage, public buildings etc. At present, theories on LWSS are well developed. Nevertheless, the applications of LWSS on architectural aesthetics, modeling methods, construction techniques and other aspects have not yet systematically explored. Therefore, this paper provides in-depth analysis of applications of light-steel industrial building design.Based on literature review and empirical evidence, this paper addresses the inadequacies of existing industrial building design and provides directions for new research. Chapter 2 of this paper summarizes the characteristics of LWSS industrial design. The following chapters (Chapter 3,4 and 5) explain the problems in implementing LWSS theory from the space design, the facade design, and roof design respectively. The last chapter (Chapter 6) shows readers two empirical design examples. And in the epilogue, this paper proposes a few design principles for LWSS industrial design.We do not only want to help designers to improve and accelerate architectural design of LWSS buildings, but also contribute to sustainable development of LWSS industrial design.
