Confucian culture is the representation of the Chinese traditional culture. With the rapid development of modern cities, Confucian culture grew from being questioned, criticized to be recognized and valued by more and more people.Confucian buildings don’t like Buddhist buildings which have the clear definition in academia. The author believes that the Confucian buildings are mainly composed by two categories:one is the worship buildings, which mainly used for the worship of Confucius and other Confucian orthodoxy. including Confucius Temple (Wenmiao), Meng Temple, Yan Temple and Ming hall, etc. The other one is cultural and educational buildings, which are built by the influence of Confucianism. These Confucian buildings are full of traditional culture and the style of era. They have important value in the study of Confucian culture, China’s ancient rites and ancient architectural.Zoucheng is the hometown of Mengzi. He and Kongzi are known as ’Kongmeng’, they are one of the Confucian orthodoxy. Meng House and Meng Temple in ZoucHeng are the buildings to commemorate the Mengzi. They are the combination of ancient Chinese architectural art and Confucianism, so they have important historical and cultural heritage conservation value.Through this background, the author selects the topic of Confucian architecture environment design to study the Confucian Architectural History, architectural form and artistic characteristics. The author also uses the Meng House and Meng Temple’s building environment design as a sample to fully study design idea, in order to explore the influence of Confucianism on the building environment design. The paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter briefly elaborates Confucian culture and missing of the Confucian culture under the modem urban development. Through this background, the purpose, significance, research status, content of the study and research methods are proposed. The second chapter studies the formation and development of Confucian architectural context. This chapter is divided into two major parts:the development of the ancient worship of Confucius and cherished heritage college. The third chapter detailed studies the shape of Confucian building and the art feature of architecture. Main content is the shape and art feature of worship buildings and the shape and artistic image of the College buildings. The worship buildings use the Kong Temple, the Temple of Literature and the hall circlet as the object of exploration and research. The College buildings focus on architectural form and the artistic image. The fourth chapter is the key part of this paper. This chapter research the Building environment design in Meng house and Meng Temple. It includes the scoping study, design patterns and design concepts of the Meng house and Meng Temple. Construction data, field survey data and design methods can be generalized. Influence of the Confucian in the building environment design can be summarized. The fifth chapter is the conclusion. This chapter summarizes the previous chapters and appeals to heritage the essence of Confucianism and protects the Confucian buildings.This paper aims to use the research outcome to give some references and theoretical basis in historical relics protection, utilization and development of the Confucian buildings. Finally, the understanding of Confucian culture is waken and the research in Confucian culture and the building environment art can be inherited and carried on.
