Research On The Safe Shipment Technology Of Nickel Ore

With the recovery of world economy, the demand of nickel ore from the main producing areas of the nickel mine, such as Indonesia, the Philippines and New Caledonia, is significantly increasing. Nevertheless, considerable maritime accidents have happened to the vessels loading nickel ore, causing enormous property damages and casualties. Consequently, the marine industry’s attention had been concentrated on the safety of nickel ore shipment, which is an imperative subject to study on.Nickel ore belongs to easily liquefied goods.If the proportion of water is too high, liquefaction of nickel ore would cause serious accidents during the voyage, which is rather hard to control over.In this paper, firstly, basing on the nature of the nickel mine, we analyze the differences between nickel ore and nickel concentrates, as well as the applicability of these two kinds of material. Secondly, we concentrate on the transportation technology of both professional and nonprofessional vessels. Subsequently, qualitative and quantitative analysis is conducted to illustrate the influence of various kinds of liquefaction. Finally, some useful suggestions are provided in order to improve the safeness of nickel ore shipment transportation.
