Easily liquefied cargo is a very special kind of solid bulk cargos. During shipping transportation, easily liquefied cargo with water content more than a certain value may be liquefied under the action of wind waves and the machine vibration. It will affect the ship’s stability and even cause the overturning of the vessel. Laterite nickel ore is a typical easily liquefied cargo. For regulation of easily liquefied cargo, the International Maritime Organization introduced the International Marine Solid Bulk Cargos Code. But the Code didn’t give the expression of the mechanism of liquefaction. Thus, the research of the mechanism and the intrinsic factor of liquefaction will not only benefits the laterite nickel ore’s shipping transportation but also has some reference significance to other easily liquefied cargos.First of all, the mechanism of laterite nickel ore’s liquefaction was explained by the mechanism of soil liquefaction. It is made be clear the interpretation of the "liquefaction" in IMSBC and the mechanism of soil liquefaction was deeply studied to demonstrate the consistency of the two principles theoretically. Then, the penetration test and dynamic triaxial experiment were respectively carried out to explain the rationality of the fluidization mechanism from experimental angle. At last, the numerical simulations of the dynamic triaxial experiments of the laterite nickel ore were conducted, and the internal parameters were analyzed by finite element numerical methods.After deeply studied IMSBC, the theory of vibration liquefaction and experiment, the mechanism of laterite nickel ore’s fluidization was concluded. By the bounding surface model and the three dimensional finite element software, the numerical simulations of the dynamic triaxial experiments of the laterite nickel ore were concluded, and the internal parameters which influence the fluidization of laterite nickel ore were concluded by theoretical, experimental and numerical simulation analysis.
