A Research On The Relationship Between Medium-sized Yachts’ Form Feature And Image

International yacht maket has maintained a steady growth trend with the global economic development, the Manufacturing technique of China yacht industry has been mature slowly. Yacht continues to be popular and the concern for water sports has increased, with the State encouraging the development of yacht tourism in recent years, so that the yacht industry is facing the problem of developing the domestic yacht entertainment industry and enhancing its international competitiveness now. Yacht design is a very important part of the yacht industrial chain, at the same time it is the weakest part now. So this research conducted an analysis of the relationship between medium-sized yachts’form feature and image by Kansei engineering method. Therefore, different sensational image products of the design principal will emerge, hoping to provide some references for the yacht design.The research methods mainly include questionnaires and statistical methods. First of all, from the psychological aspects of people’s image of medium-sized yacht, choose the perceptual vocabularies by factor analysis method. Second, with the ship shape and aesthetic theory, select important design factors that influencing people’s feeling mostly and then employ qualitative and quantitative analyses to define the style of the product. Finally it’s the questionnaire investigation using the combination of images and designing factors, and the multiple regression analysis of the relationsip between images and design factors. The result shows that six representative images of medium-sized yacht influence people’s perceptions mostly, and adjusting some design factors can increase or reduce some aesthetic perceptions. The most important yacht’s form features are the shape of lateral line on the sides of a yacht, the shape of the ship room windows, the length of main room, the angle of the stern side of the line.In this study, Kansei engineering theory is applied to yacht design. Exploring the relationship between yachts’form feature and image, and proposing on the yacht emotional design have some practical significance to the domestic yacht design.
