Natural gas, as a green energy, has been widespread all over the world. LNG (liquefied natural gas) industry chain has been vigorous development. Not only the demanded number of LNG carrier, which plays the main role of LNG transporter in the imported LNG industry chain, is continued to rise, but also the maximum cargo capacity of this carrier has exceeded300,000m3to maximize the benefits. This type of ship is gradually moving towards a large-scale road.The traditional LNG carrier is used primarily for ocean transport of LNG imports. With the continuous expansion of the LNG industry chain, we ask for some new requirements on the shipping of LNG carriers. For offshore LNG shipping and the secondary transport between LNG import receiving terminal to inland receiving terminal which has fairways, if use traditional LNG carriers to transport, has poor economy and the large restrictions by the ports and fairway.The conception of small and medium scale LNG carriers is put forward in recent years, which has smaller scale and low cost, and solve the difficulties faced by the LNG short-distance shipping and secondary transport. The difference with the traditional LNG ship is not only the size of the cargo capacity, but also the compartments of the cargo tank areas in the form and layout due to the different forms of cargo tanks.The calculation method of small and medium scale LNG carriers’stability is the same as normal’s; before that we need to definite and modeling various compartments of the ship. If one of head bulks need to amended, head bulks which nearby need to change yet. Therefore, we have a heavy work to do. Compartments of small and medium scale LNG carrier layout have a very obvious regularity, especially cross-section peripherals of tanks are analytic lines in general. While the widely-used general-purpose ship performance computing software, such as Compass, need to enter the location information of the key points on the cross-section. For a round transaction, to ensure the exactitude it need to enter large amounts of data. Therefore it’s meaningful to simplify complicates deification, complicate the compartments defined and modeling rapidly and improve computational efficiency in early design stage.Comprehensive this paper, the main contents the following: (1) Collect a large number of liquefied gas carriers with capacity is less than10.000m. and summarize the characters and regulars of laying out tankers in small and medium scale LNG carriers.(2) Rapidly define compartments of small and medium scale LNG carriers and develop a program to modeling its compartment, calculate the volume and LCG of compartments and create the compartments data file based on layout regularity of tanks summed up.(3) Using a existing calculate ship damage stability programs and the data file created by the development process of this paper to calculate the damage stability of a6400m3LNG ship in several specific conditions and damage situations.(4) Analysis the damage stability calculations of example ship and sum up damage stability regularity of small and medium scale LNG carrier.
