Asphalt concrete core wall as the earth-rock dam seepage control systems is widely used worldwide, it has good ability to adapt to deformation, anti-erosion and aging ability, while dam rockfill has aggregate less demanding and the terrain conditions adaptable, so it has become the recommended dam type by the International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD).In recent years, with the development and application of asphalt concrete core wall dam, studies on the asphalt concrete core wall are also more widely, including the material properties of the asphalt concrete, the ratio of the stress-strain characteristics, but the earthquake damage mechanisms, which is about.the type of connection between the asphalt core wall and impervious wall, is still blank. The type of connection between the asphalt core wall and the cut-off wall directly affect the stress and deformation of the asphalt core wall, thereby affecting the entire impervious system, even the safety of the whole dam. In this paper, the basic research and operating expenses of the Central Universities the special funds (DUT11ZD110), carried out a series of experiments and numerical analysis of the asphalt concrete core wall dam core wall and the base of different connector types. Its main contents are the following sections:(1) Carry out the experimental study of the dynamic model of the asphalt core dam using a large bi-directional shaking table. With analogy methods and advanced testing te-chniques (including high-speed HD camera and image analysis), collect the asphalt concr-ete core wall acceleration and dynamic strain seismic response of real-time monitoring. Study on the seismic effect of joint types (the horizontal joint and the curved joint) and the impermeable performance after the earthquake.(2) Carry out indoor penetration model tests, which are under different water stress conditions, study on the impact of copper waterstop impervious core wall, and further re-search on the impervious performance when there’s relatively dislocation between the cor e wall and base.(3) Numerical simulation of the shaking table model tests is carried out. They can confirms the result with each other. The results show that the experimental and numerical simulation is qualitatively consistent with experimental results is reasonable.(4) The dynamic response of the prototype dam is calculated by nonlinear finite ele-ment techniques, and the seismic performance of the different joint types of prototype dam is compared. Shaking table model test and finite element analysis results provide the basis for the selection of the joint types.
