The damage caused by earthquakes at home and abroad indicates that building structures would go through enormous nonlinear deformations and even collapse under medium or strong earthquakes. So the study of the structural seismic capacity and failure mechanism is an important work for earthquake workers. As one effective trial measure, the model shaking table test will become more important in the field of seismic capability study on buildings. Because it is more closer to the actual earthquake ground motion and the earthquakes damage to buildings, so it is an important means and method to research on the structure's cracking pattern and failure mechanism and to evaluate the seismic capacity. Therefore the theoretical research in earthquake engineering and in engineering practice has been widely applied. In this paper, the following items are carried out:(1) According to an typical reinforced concrete frame structure, a 1/8 scale micro concrete was designed, produced and did shake table tests, and the test process was detailed discussed. The seismic performance and damage characteristic of R.C frame under the different level earthquakes are studied by using theoretical analysis and experimental study.(2) The dynamic testing result demonstrates that: with the increasing of the earthquake intensity, natural frequency decreased, the type of the structural displacement response is shear type, and there is no weak storey.(3) According to the model test result, the seismic response of the prototype is deduced and analyzed. Both the test and analytical result show that the maximum inter story drifts and the displacement angle are smaller than the allowable limits stipulated in Chinese cold. Conclusion can be drawn that the structure can meet the requirement of no damage under frequent earthquake, repairable damages under basic earthquake and no collapse under rare earthquake.
