With the exploitation of offshore oil and gas resources constantly proceeded in deep water and ultra deep water, research on drilling and production system for deep water has became hot issues. Deep drillship due to the characteristics of good mobility, the smaller risk, the larger storage capacity and the deeper water drilling is considered to be one of most technological advanced ocean drill unit in world widely.This article takes a12000DWT drillship as object of study, when parameters such as hull main dimensions, the lines plan, the general arrangement are given, to design the mid-section structure. The main content as follows:(1) Collect and analyze domestic and foreign research on the drillship, and summary the drillship characteristics of hull form and holds/tanks arrangements.(2) According to the section profile and hull arragements prepared by the initial design, and following some construction rule for DNV, the12000DWT drillship mid-section structrue design is completed.(3) Use ANSYS software to establish the finite element model of three tanks in amidship and analysis of longitudinal strength.In addition, the successfully achieved the DNV rules procedures by using of vb, which is more convenient, intuitive applied in mid-section component size calculations.
