The high-speed railway develops rapidly nowadays, the ability of receiving current of high-speed train from catenary system has been a key element of performance of running train. So, it’s necessary to have a deep research on the key technology problem of high-speed pantograph. For it’s hard to improve the performance of current receiving by means of optimize the structure of pantograph, the best way to solve this problem is to adapt an active pantograph. Compared with the traditional pneumatic actuators, electromagnetic actuator has a fast response, no oil pollution, high positioning accuracy advantage. Using electromagnetic actuator to control the pantograph is a trend. There is a lot ways in pantograph’s active control, we chose the electromagnetic actuator as the actuator in the active control, and study it’s structure and performance in this paper. The main content of this paper: Analyzes the dynamic characteristics of the catenary-pantograph system, build the mathematical model of coupling system for catenary-pantograph, and give the method of calculation of the contact force; Present the common types of actuator, present the performance of the electromagnetic actuator used in active control of pantograph and propose several feasible actuator programs. We build the analytical model of the actuator, do the2D transient analysis and get the performance by using Ansoft Maxwell12, a low-frequency electromagnetic finite element software. Provide some basis for actuator selection.Build the simulation model of the catenary-pantograph system in MATLAB/Simulink based on the binary pantograph; Obtain the contact stiffness of catenary-pantograph according to the catenary and pantograph’s parameters. Then, the solenoid-type actuator is added to the pantograph-catenary system to control bowhead. achieve the desired results. The performance of the contact between pantograph and catenary is improved, and the quality of current collection is enhanced.
