In recent years, wind power industry is growing very fast in China. Both annual increase of installed capacity and total installed capacity rank first in the world, and wind power has become an important part of energy production in our country. The wind turbine manufacturers also experienced the development process that from the importation of technology to self-innovation. Wind turbine control system is the core of wind turbine, the performance of which is very important to wind turbine, but the key technology is also the one that foreign manufacturers block to us. Therefore, the development of independent intellectual property rights of the wind turbine control system is very important to the development of wind power industry and wind turbine manufacturing industry.The main content of this paper is to develop the control system of the WT1650doubly-fed variable speed constant frequency wind turbine which is produced by CSR ZHUZHOU INSTIUTE CO., LTD. The control system is developed based on ABB’s AC500series programmable logic controller (PLC) hardware platform, and the paper focuses on engineering development.First of all, the development of wind power industry in China recently is introduced in this paper, and the situation of domestic and foreign wind turbine control system technology is analyzed. Then, the characteristics of variable speed constant frequency wind turbine at low wind speed and high speed section operation is introduced, as well as wind turbine adopts the control mode and control strategy in different wind speed section.Secondly, the overall technical solutions of the wind turbine control system based on the AC500controller is described, and then the research on the subject of both hardware solution and software solution is carried out. Hardware technology research mainly contents: Control system network topology, configuration and man-machine interface of nacelle control subsystem and towerbase control subsystem. Software technology research mainly contents:state control of operation of the machine, the pitch control, the closed-loop regulation of the generator torque control, drive chain torsion damping control, the maximum power capture control of the wind turbine, active yaw and untwist cable control, fault diagnosis and alarm, fault recording and processing, and communication control function for the pitch and the yaw converter, power converter, operational control of the communication control function of the screen, the communication control function of the SCADA system and wind turbine running state recording. Software solutions describe the control theory and related algorithms in detail.Finally, the research topic is summarized. On one hand, implementation of the project is introduced; on the other hand, the technical development of wind turbine control system technology is prospected.
