With a long history, Chinese traditional architectural culture is broad and profound, but in the process of global integration, the convergence of every Chinese urbanconstruction has been enhanced and the original city features have been lost. Xi’anis theancient capital of thirteendynasties, with the original traditions, architectural creationshould embody the fresh spiritual connotationin the new era.Consequently, thearchitects are in the face of an urgent task, which is seeking brand architectural designmethods based on the protection and inheritance of traditional culture, to continue theoverall context of the ancient capital Xi’an.To start with, this paper summarizes the traditional building techniques, combinedwith a large number of architectural casesand comes to the conclusion that we couldmake good use of traditional techniques in the modern ones. Among them, we explainseparately from concept, space, materials, symbol and so on to reflect theapplication oftraditional architectural technique used on the current ones. And we make furtheranalysis on the spiritual connotation and apparent form of the traditional constructionslie in the modern design. For example, the successful Three-Tangengineering masteredby ZhangJinqiu is the incarnation of his environmental concept. TangHua hotel appliesancient courtyard in its operation.Secondly, under the background of "revival plan on Tang imperial city" in thefourth design of Xi’an, we make Wanda plaza of Xi’an-Min park a practicalcase, combined with the ancient capital culture, and based on the related theory oftraditional architecture research. Meanwhile, we demonstrate from space structure, building style, material use, etc to discuss how to blend the traditional buildings context into modern architecture. In this way, we draw some conclusions on future architecturaldesign using traditional methods to extend culture. The traditional building techniques usedin Wanda plaza of Xi’an-Min parkincluding the following aspects:First, the textures and space of the construction. Using the pattern of the modernurban lane, they mix dot, line, plane these three different forms, makingthe constructionboth contemporary and traditional.Second, the style and the context of the construction. For the color of the building, they adopt the abiding city color, gray, as the fundamental one to cater to the ancientcapital overall style. For the modelling of the building, they resort slope roof which hasrich architectural shapes. For adornments, they extract and integrate the traditionalarchitectural elements in the design. All these reflect the continuation of the ancientculture.Third, the materials of the construction. Wood, stone and brick, these traditionalmaterials are widely used in the design. At the same time, they introduce modernmaterial and technology to simulate the traditional indoor roof grilleand unique textureof the ancient buildings.Fourth, the proportion and scale of the construction. The plaza is in wellcoordination with thehistorical environment, which requires the height of the buildingshall not be more than24meters. Moreover, they restore the narrow streets in theresidential space and rationalize the proportion and scale of the building on both sidesof the street, in order to ensure the sense of privacy and intimacy.Generally speaking, this article hold forth a detailed case for modern architecturaldesign inherited from that of traditional architecture, especially putting forward theinnovation for modern construction to demonstrate the traditional ones, making it aneffective approach for the architectural design in the future.
