There are large numbers of aircraft sheet metal parts in aircraft structure, the traditional designsfor aircraft sheet metal parts regard the geometric features as object, thus, it is unable to integrate thedesign knowledge into the design process effectively. A lot of consult standards and repeat modelingwork seriously affect the design efficiency, because the traditional designs depend on the artificialmanpower to deal with the design information.Therefore, this paper investigated the aircraft sheet metal feature automatic modeling technology,developed aircraft sheet metal feature automatic modeling system based on knowledge and featuredesign, and realized automatic generation of sheet metal geometric feature.Main research work and innovations are as follows:(1) Based on the demand of aircraft sheet metal feature automatic modeling, aircraft sheet metalfeature automatic modeling system is proposed, and the overall structure and function frame of thesystem are designed;(2) Aircraft sheet metal feature is classified and coded, and the parametric sheet feature library isconstructed by extracting the typical parameters of aircraft sheet metal feature, combing with thegeometric features.(3) The fusion technology of feature and knowledge is researched and the mapping relationshipbetween them is built. While the design knowledge of aircraft sheet metal feature is acquired,managed and reused by utilizing the knowledge engineering.(4) Based on the above research achievements, the aircraft sheet metal feature modeling systemis developed and applied in aircraft structural design process.
