In recent years, with the rapid development of Chinese landscape construction, thereappear a large number landscape works such as lack connotation, the expression ofconfusion. For expressing the landseape theme better, this paper uses general semioticstheory to analyse and intensify the semiotics in landscape architecture.In order to to get anew design methods and theory, the paper attempts to find one feasible theory of theapplication of semiotics in the expression of landseape theme.This paper includes four parts of the contents as following:(1) According to the history of the landscape construction, the first part redefines thelandseape theme a intention which is influenced by the master、the designer and the reality,and divided the landseape theme into four categories: entertainment theme、tendentioustheme、commemoratory theme and environmental protection theme.(2) The second part introducs the general semiotics theory and the composition of thesymbol: the medium of symbol, the object of symbol, the interpretation of symbol.(3) The third part defines the symbol in landscape architecture, explicitly pointed out thatthe surest way to express landscape theme is the landseape symbol. And the third partstudies the characteristics of symbol in landscape architecture:changing medium、changingand interpretation.(4) On the basis of symbol, the fourth part analyses the semiotics in landscapearchitecture and gets the general use principle. Combined with actual cases, the fourth partdivided the semiotics in landscape architecture into six types and gets the single useprinciples.In order to intensify the semiotics in landscape architecture, the fourth partgets the comprehensive use principles.
