The research of measurement and control system of the electromagnetic railgun isone of the important technology researches in electromagnetic launch field. The highvelocity of electromagnetic railgun in theory can not be achieved in actual fact, this isbecause that the velocity of electromagnetic railgun is affected by the electromagneticlaunch current and armature ablation and contact problems. The armature and rails as thecarrier of electromagnetic gun are the key research for electromagnetic railgun. A researchbased on image processing was proposed in this paper in order to study the state ofarmature and rails ablation in the process of electromagnetic launch. The main researchcontents are as follows:The paper adopt the high speed photography method to obtain the armature image inelectromagnetic railgun exterior ballistic on the analysis of the domestic and foreignresearch background and the main problems emerged by now. And the armature state inmuzzle exit was mainly studied in this paper; meanwhile analyze the influence factors oflight arc and fragments after the image processing. The ablation images of ballisticsegmentation were processed after electromagnetic launch. Finally, the electromagneticgun fired performances were comprehensive judged by these useful research results.First, Hardware and software configuration of the image acquisition system wereanalyzed and set manually, and arc extinction device was designed to acquire armatureimage in muzzle exit by using high-speed camera. Considering the problem that armatureand rails contact is not easy to detect in bore, this paper analyzes the state of rails andarmature contact problems by analyzing the external trajectory characteristics indirectly.The images of armature were recorded by High-speed camera real-timely, which measurethe flying state of armature in muzzle exit after dealing with the image processingtechnology.Then, this paper uses Mean Shift image segmentation algorithm to extract thearmature by analyzing the characteristics of the rails and exterior ballistic image.Meanwhile, comparing with different segmentation methods, the superiority of the MeanShift algorithm in extracting rail target images was shown in this paper. Comparing andanalyzing the rails ablation and the armature image of exterior ballistic under different energy states, the ablation of the rails surface and the armature flying state can bedetermined. This research has great significance in real-time measuring application of theelectromagnetic gun.
