Electromagnetic railgun has a broad military application foreground. Its huge potential attracts military mighty countries to do studies on both theory and application.In theory study, researchers want to master entire system physical processes of electromagnetic railgun. However, railgun is a high-speed sliding contact under the stress field, electromagnetic field and thermal fiele coupling complex system, fully understanding of entire process of the system is very difficult. Then, turning to outside characteristics of raigun, an acceptable simplified description on the engineering of railgun physical processes gived by load characteristics has academic value.In the multi-module timing capacitor discharge railgun power system, capacitor discharge time determined by the railgun load. Therefore it is important to put forword with a more accurate railgun circuit model.Based on the railgun electromagnetic theory and basic electrical load analysis, the paper conducts experimental and theoretical research of railgun electrical load characteristics.In the experimental study, comparing experiments of railgun tail short-current and armature static, railgun tail short-current and launch, are conducted. Railgun inductance gradient test experiment is also conducted. Some important experimental data of the railgun electrical load characteristics are obtained, providing an important basis for theoretical calculation of the default parameter.In the theoretical study, magnetic field and current field of railgun are analysed. Several major load parameters are gained, such as the force of armature, rail inductance, rail resistance, armature resistance, armature inductance and armature induction voltage. Then the electrical load parameters of railgun are obtained.Experimental and theoretical studies indicate that:Load of railgun show obvious nonlinear; Experimental data shows the railgun electrical parameters characteristics, which dominated by basic physics; Numerical analysis methods can obtain accurately railgun load parameters, The load model satisfy sequential module discharge power and railgun system circuit simulation.
