Associating with the National Science and Technology Major Project, the National NaturalScience Funds and requirements from aviation manufacturing industry, the technology of anglehead in NC machining for aircraft structural parts are deeply studied. The main achievements ofthis paper are as follows:1) The requirements of the angle head machining technology for aircraft structural parts arestudied. On the basis of the structure characteristics of aircraft complex structural parts and themachining characteristics of angle head, the shortage of the traditional process and the advantage ofangle head in machining the aircraft complex structural parts are pointed out. The choosingprinciple of the angle head is proposed. And then the machining difficulties with angle head areanalyzed and indicated.2) The methods of coordinate transformation in post process for machining with angle headare proposed. The principle of the suitable installation direction for angle head is given. Accordingto the analysis of the associated coordinate system, the type of machine tools and the movement ofangle head in machining, coordinate transformation in post process for angle head are solved basedon different types of machine tool. At last, by the comparison with the rotation coordinatetransformation when the general holder is in use the coordinate transformation is simplified andtested in the post process.3) The method combined the NC system function and post process to control the non-lineartolerance in machining with angle head is proposed. Based on research of the RTCP principle, thenone-linear tolerance in machine tool spindle direction is controlled by the configuration of the NCsystem. Based on the analysis of the angle head cutter movement, the none-linear evaluation modelis constructed, and the none-linear tolerance in angle head tool direction is controlled in the postprocess. According to method, none-linear tolerance control in machining for aircraft structuralparts is implemented.4) The system of angle head machining system for aircraft structural parts on CATIA isdeveloped, which has been successfully deployed in a large-scale aviation manufacture enterprise.
