A Study On The Theory And Practice Of Interactive Architecture

Architecture in the 21st century should respond the needs and characteristics of the information era. Interactive architecture, as one of contemporary architectural ideas, emphasizes on the dynamic combination of virtual information and physical space in its design process. By controlling and adjusting the sources and the representation of information, as well as the response strategies and phenomenon expression of the space, interactive architecture not only gives buildings a unique narrative way, but also creates a new spatial experience. In the essay, basing on the perspective of material, energy and information, I re-considered the relationship among human, environment and society. I also analyzed the interdisciplinary studies between contemporary avant-garde architecture and other areas, such as embedded intelligence, adaptive structures, bionics, biotechnology and materials science etc. Interactive architecture is becoming the medium between digital life and the real world. Such kind of architecture is getting lighter material, freedom form, multi-function spaces, and intelligent reaction. It can even be considered as a new kind of artificial life which will change the future of the city.In the study of interactive architecture, this essay emphasized on the following topics:What’s the philosophical relationship among the information medium, digital network and interactive space? What is the development of interaction architecture in cotemporary architecture history? (Chapter 2)As a design element, how does information influence and participate in the design process?What is the cognitive model of the environment, and how will it be transformed into the physical space? Compared with the traditional ones, what are the uniqueness of the program logic and technical idea behind interactive architecture (Chapter 3)What’re the specific studies and practices in interactive architecture research?In which way shall we evaluate them? What is the aesthetic definition and advanced development of them? (Chapter 4)As an architect, how to deal with relationship between technology and human beings in interactive architecture? (Chapter 5) Based on the above issues, according to theoretical researches, case studies, multi-disciplinary communication, practical operation(not finished yet), I made further studies on the basic ideas, design process, classification research and evaluation mode on contemporary interactive architecture. By interactively organizing the information exchange among human beings, environment, and society, interactive architecture, as a new design direction, will effectively promote the evolution of architecture.
