Water-repellent finishing is one of the most important after-finishing of fabrics. Owing to high electro-negativity of fluorine element, the bond between C and F has extremely high energy. Additionally, because the atomic radium of F is higher than C, the covalent binding between them can shield C-C effectively. All these make fluorinated polymers have high thermal, chemical resistance and high surface activity.Applying semi-continuous emulsion polymerization, choosing perfluroalkyl polyacrylate as fluoro-component, N-hydroxymethyl acrylamide and other two acrylate polymers as fluorine-free components prepared fluorinated water-repellent agent WR-1. The chemical structures of the flame retardants were investigated by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The change of external geometry morphology of the fabric before- or after-treated was shown by SEM, then we found that fluorinated water-repellent agent WR-1 had excellent film-forming ability. Through contact angel test of fabrics finished by WR-1, WR-1 had fine static water-repellency. Also WR-1 had excellent properties in stabilities of emulsion.WR-1 was applied on cotton, polyester, and polyamide fabrics. Under optimum finishing techniques, for cotton fabrics as the contention of WR-1 is 5g/L, we can achieve good water-repellency; when the concentration is 25g/L, we can achieve excellent oil-repellency; when the concentration of WR-1 is 40g/L, with cross-linking agent DH-300 in it, water-repellency can achieve 90 points and oil-repellency can achieve 4 grade. For polyester fabrics, as the contention of WR-1 is 5g/L, we can achieve good water-repellency; when the concentration is 30g/L, we can achieve excellent oil-repellency, When the concentration of WR-1 is 50g/L, with cross-linking agent DH-300 in it, water-repellency can achieve 90 points and oil-repellency can achieve 4 grade.For polyamide fabrics, as the contention of WR-1 is 3g/L, we can achieve good water-repellency; when the concentration is 25g/L, we can achieve excellent oil-repellency; When the concentration of WR-1 is 40g/L, with cross-linking agent DH-300 in it, water-repellency can achieve 90 points and oil-repellency can achieve 4 grade. Through researches, we found WR-1had small effects on the mechanical properties of fabrics.With the progress of society and development of economy, textiles with single function can’t meet people’s need, so it’s necessary for us to study the multi-function of after-finishing. In this article, we applied fluorinated water-repellent agent WR-1 into multi-functional finishing. We applied WR-1 with softeners, anti-static agents, anti-crease agent, and flame-retardant agent with different structures into one bath, then treated fabrics. We mainly studied the effects of one-bath finishing on water- and oil-repellency, hand-feeling, anti-static, anti-crease, flame-retardant performances and the mechanical properties of fabrics. The experiments results revealed that fatty amide derivative softeners had little effects on water-and oil-repellency, organic silicone softener had little effects on water-repellency but had serious effects on oil-repellency, and nonionic softeners were just the opposite. Cationic antistatic agents DM-3722, WX-680A were compatible with WR-1. Polycarboxylic acid type anti-crease finishing agents had great effects on water and oil-repellency. N-hydroxymethyl type resin finishing agents had few effects on water- and oil-repellency. WR-1 could improve the cross-linking degree of resins. Flame-retardant agent PEKOFLAM DPN (N-methylol-3-(dimethylphosphono) propionamide) had good compatibility with WR-1. When applied them in one bath, it had very little effects on water- and oil-repellency, flame-retardant performances and mechanical properties of fabrics.
