Countries around the world put their eyes on the ocean in the21st century, it can be said that the21st century is the century of human re-understanding of the ocean and the development of marine. However, it cannot be ignored that the marine ecological environment has become increasingly prominent as the marine development is in full swing. This problem also has drawn a lot of human attention. Therefore, the question of the relationship between the economic development in coastal areas and the marine environment has become the focus of attention. Around this issue, this paper sets to an empirical study on the relationship between China’s coastal areas on maritime and terrestrial economies development and the marine environment.Focus on the above topics, this paper is divided into six chapters:Chapter I, introduction. This chapter discusses the background and problems of this study; defines related concepts; illustrates the direction and methodology of the research; and selects indicators and data sources are described. For the main research content of this paper, chapter II comments on the research status at home and abroad, and explains the significance of this study.Selecting per capita GDP and wastewater emissions (including industrial waste water, sewage) as the representative indicators of the coastal provinces’economic development and the marine environment, chapter III uses the Environmental Kuznets theory to explore the relationship between the two.On the basis of evaluation of the coastal provinces’municipalities and urbanization level, Chapter IV uses coupled mode theory to evaluate the relationship between urbanization and the marine environment of the11coastal provinces in2011. Then this chapter selects the urbanization rate and the total wastewater discharge as an indicator to analyze the timing changes of the relationship between the two.Chapter V focuses on the relationship of the marine economy development and the marine environment. Selecting marine three industrial output value, the output value of major marine industries as indicators of the development of marine economy, the clean sea area, the production of sewage, mud, cuttings and a series of indicators related to marine development activities as indicators of the marine environment, the chapter uses gray relational analysis to explore the relationship between the two.Chapter Ⅵ, the research findings and research prospects. Summarizes the main conclusions of this study, then analyzes of the shortcomings of this study and puts forward the research directions needed to deepen in the future.
