In recent years, pharmaceutical, chemical and health product manufacturingdeveloped rapidly in China. The discharged wastewater from pharmaceuticalmanufacturing process contained large amounts of toxic and hazardous substances. Ifthe wastewater did not discharge according to the provision, it will pollute theenvironment and do harm to the health of people. So it is necessary for eachpharmaceutical company to build a sewage station for their own wastewatertreatment.Jilin Mai Feng Bio-Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. is located in Changchun City,district two, nineteen kilometers away from south line of Jichang Road, which is apharmaceutical company full of facilities. The pharmaceutical wastewater that thecompany discharged is very complex and contained biodegradable substances (drugs,detergents, etc.). If the wastewater discharged without control, it must cause thepollution of the receiving water. In order to protect the receiving water, stopped itfrom polluting the surrounding environment, and promote the local environment,economic sustainable and social stability and coordinate development, the companydecided to take measures to treat the wastewater. According to the provisions ofArticle six of the Environmental Protection Act, they decided to design a sewagestation named "Bio-Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. of Jilin Mai Feng ".The pH of wastewater the company discharged was between6-9, and the amountof COD was less than677mg/L, and the amount of BOD was less than402mg/L,and the amount of suspended solids (SS) was less than434mg/L. The designationensured the discharged water can reach the Integrated Wastewater DischargeStandard, in detail; the wastewater should below the first discharged standard ofmaximum allowable discharge of the concentration of pollutants.Comprehensive consideration of various factors, we chose the pretreatment-H/O-precipitation-disinfection process to deal with the pharmaceutical wastewaterdischarged from the company. Because of high amount of suspended solids in the wastewater, the project chose a pre-treatment process to remove large amount ofsuspended solids. It was difficult to achieve the emission standard by using anaerobicbiological process separately. Besides, anaerobic biological process produce smellyodor, which can polluted the indoor environment. So we use hydrolysis acidificationprocess instead of the anaerobic biological process. The hydrolysis acidification doesnot require strict anaerobic condition, and produce no odor. The wastewater left theanaerobic biological process and went to the biological contact oxidation process. Thebiological contact oxidation process increased the contact area of the wastewater andthe sludge, and had well treatment effect, and had no sludge expansion. The processwas easy to manage and can stably operated. Because the company had their ownozone generator originally, we choose ozone disinfection fragment as the disinfectionsegment process.After the determination of the main process, and the project took theconsideration of the amount of wastewater the sewage station can treat everyday, wedesigned the structure for the sewage station and choose the equipment for it. At last,we designed the plane and elevation layout for the sewage station. Also we designedthe cultivation and domestication of the sludge both for the anaerobic and the aerobicunits, as well as the management approach for the whole units.After continuous operation for a long time, the removal efficiency of COD forthe main process H/O sedimentation process segment can get more than85%, and theremoval efficiency of BOD was90%, and the removal efficiency of suspended solidswas70%. The removal efficiency of COD for the whole process was89%, and theremoval efficiency of BOD was93%, and the removal efficiency of suspended solidswas88%.Finally, we analyzed the economic and environmental benefit for the sewagestation. We hope to create a better environmental benefit, and at the same time, triedto minimize the amount of money cost for the wastewater treatment. The designedprocess was suitable for small and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies to treattheir pharmaceutical wastewater. The process can reach the environment benefits aswell as the economic benefits, and it can be widely promoted.
