Fabric surface hairiness doesn’t only affect the appearance of the fabric, but also thefabric wearing comfort. Therefore fabric pilling performance is an important test index inproduction and trade. Along with the progress of science and technology, the objectiveevaluation methods of the fabric property will become the mainstream of the testevaluation replacing the subjective evaluation methods.In this paper, establishing the index system charactering the fabric pillingperformance by the doing experiment with the fabric experiencing circle locus fabricpilling test to realize the objective evaluation for fabric pilling. After the selected fabricthrough the single compression experiments with different number of pilling, the variouscharacter indexes are discussed, compared with the same index of the original sample,then the objective evaluation index system for the fabric pilling is put forward. By doingcomparisons with the fabric undergoing the balling up experiments and not, analyzing thevarious indexes the objective assessment system evaluating the fabric pilling property isestablished.As the tests shown that: characteristic indexes of fabric hairiness raise along withfuzzing numbers increase, but they raise greatly when the fuzzing number is small andtend to be stable along with continue increasing of fuzzing number; the fuzz of fabric canbe evaluated using the rates of change of characteristic indexes of fabric hairiness aftercertain times (20times) of fuzzing relative to the original sample, and the ratio of thevariation of the hairiness length is the key evaluation standard, the rest variation ofindexes being the assisted; there are not balls on the surface of the worsted fabric notundergoing the brushing pilling mainly due to the length and the density of hairinessbelow the pilling standards; for different fabric after pilling, the quantity and the averageweight of hair bulb with the pilling number of change is not the same and will increaserapidly in a certain number of the balling up experiment; the pilling property of the fabriccan be characterized objectively by change rate of the hairiness length before and afterpilling processing, bigger change rate of the hairiness length indicates that the fabric pillsmore easily.
