The rapid development of China’s urban economy and the accelerated process of urbanization, urban traffic increased sharply, while the non-renewable resource consumption of the transportation system, resulting in a shortage of resources and urban environmental quality deterioration. Therefore, make a correct evaluation of energy consumption, pollutant emissions and road use in the transportation system to find a reasonable mode for urban transportation system, which is great significance to the sustainable development of China’s urban transport. Starting from the operational features of the urban transportation system, this paper bring traffic pollutant emissions and water consumption into the transportation ecological footprint model accounts, build and elaborate a more complete urban transportation ecological footprint calculating theories and methods. Proposed the transportation ecological footprint consists of four accounts:the fossil energy footprint, built land footprint, the pollutant footprint and water footprint. This paper calculated the transportation ecological footprint of the central city of Chengdu on motor vehicle traffic in the time series, the results show that:2006to2010, the transportation ecological footprint gradual increase in growth from1,482,110hm2to2,732,930hm, up by84.39%; transportation ecological footprint per capita was also an upward trend to increase from0.491025hm2per person to0.82909hm2per person, an increase of68.85%. Fossil energy footprint of the central city motor vehicle accounted for the transport ecological footprint of the average annual proportion of86.47%, significantly higher than the other three types of accounts footprint; pollutants footprint accounts for the transportation ecological footprint of the average annual proportion of12.34%, while the built footprint and the water the proportion of relatively small footprint, but can not be ignored. From the point view of growth rate, fossil energy footprint and pollutant footprint average annual growth rate is higher, respectively16.57%and17.30%, the water footprint of negative growth in2007, grew by only-4.34%.From the point of view of the vehicle type, transportation ecological footprint of the car was the highest proportion, with an average of31.09%; followed by a heavy-duty diesel vehicles and heavy-duty gasoline vehicles, accounting for the ratio reached13.27%and 11.86%respectively. Fossil energy footprint of the car was relatively high, its average annual ratio of25.69%, heavy duty diesel vehicles annual percentage is14.67%, second only to the car for the second place in the various models. Fossil energy footprint of the taxis and buses accounted for relatively small. Car pollution footprint is also the largest ratio, its average annual accounts for the ratio reached68.15%, more than other types of models, followed by a heavy-duty gasoline vehicles and medium-sized petrol car.In Chengdu city traffic system, the following measures can be taken to reduce the transportation ecological footprint:1) appropriate to control the use of motor vehicle;2) adjust vehicle energy structure;3) vigorously develop the public transit system;4) strengthen motor vehicle pollutant emission control.
