Alkyl substituted thiolphenol compounds, a series of important fine chemicalproducts, were widely used to prepare dyes, additives, medicines andintermediates. Recently, with rapid development of dyes and auxiliaries, marketdemand of alkyl substituted thiolphenol compounds was increasing year by year.Consequently, the research of novel preparation method and development of anew production engineering which was simple, environmentally friendly andlower in energy consumption possessed great theoretical significance andpractical application value.Therefore, in this paper, toluene, ethyl benzene, isopropyl benzene,tert-butyl benzene and other alkyl substituted benzene were chosen as startingmaterials to synthesize target compounds through sulfonation, acyl chlorinationand reduction reactions. The systematic study of synthesis has been stated. Thelaw of influence by molecular structure of materials, reagents and catalysts onmain and side reactions has been explored. The law of effect by reactiontemperature, reaction time and feeding programs on yield has also been systematicly researched. The synthetic technological condition has beenpreliminary optimized. P-methyl thiophenol, p-ethyl thiophenol, p-isopropylthiophenol, p-tert-butyl thiophenol and other alkyl substituted thiophenolproducts have been successfully synthesized. The dynamics tracking ofsulfonation reaction of some alkyl benzenes was studied by using HPLC. Thetarget compounds were characterized by IR and1H-NMR. The law ofsulfonation reaction of different substituted alkyl benzenes was revealed. Inaddition, double4-isopropyl benzyl sulphone and double4-tert-butyl benzylsulphone were firstly synthesized in study.Based on work above, according to need of practical production as well,synthetic engineering of some alkyl thiophenol compounds was systematiclyoptimized. The chemical technology of sulfonation in sections of alkylsubstituted benzenes and acyl chlorination to prepare alkyl benzenesulfochloride has been successfully designed. Synthetic technology of alkylsubstituted thiophenol from alkyl benzene sulfochloride using iron powder wasalso optimized. The study effectively shortened the reaction time and improvedthe efficiency of preparation. For the actual need of industrialized production, HCl absorption system hasbeen designed. The iron sludge arising in the course of processing waspreliminary disposed to obtain pure ferrous sulfate products which could be useddirectly as raw material of flocculation agent.
