Ball mill is the processing equipment for crushing material with steel ball in therotary cylinder. Its application is very extensive involving chemical, metallurgy, ceramics, cement and national defense industries. The main structure consists ofcylinder, feeding part, discharging part, plain bearings, gear and lubrication system. With the increasing demand of ore in the market, the development of ball mill as animportant equipment in the grinding process has attracted more and more attention athome and abroad. In recent years, with the manufacturers’ demand of the mining cost, the grinding efficiency increases gradually and the development of ball mill tends to belarge-scale, high efficiency and low consumption. The cylinder is an important part of the ball mill which primarily takes charge ofthe material crushing and grinding. The stiffness and strength of the cylinder has a greatimpact on the service life and the driving accuracy at normal working and other parts. Ithas important significance for improving the overall reliability by the calculation of thefatigue strength of the cylinder and end caps.Through analyzing the stress at working state, it is clearly known that the ball millis mainly affected by the combined effect of the impact of the venting off media in thecylinder, gear driving loads as well as their own gravity. And then, a three-dimensionalsimplified cylinder model is created by using finite element software. The unit grid isdivided, the surface effect unit is covered and the force is applied. After the analysis andcalculation of the cylinder, the stress distribution and displacement in the working stateare obtained. Since the cylinder cap is the parts of stress concentration, it is necessary toanalysis the contact with the sliding bearing. The result shows the maximum stress andgenerating position. And then, the analysis is summarized and the feasible developmentdirection of the ball mill is put forward. The force calculation method and structural analysis provides a theoretical basisfor the optimal design of the ball mill in this thesis. Under the premise of safe production, it has some significance for reducing manufacturing cost and failureprobability of the ball mill.
