Pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs), are widely usedin human daily life and released into the water environment with a largeamount, which could impact the water environment quality and ecosystemsecurity. Major sources of PPCPs in the environment are released fromincomplete treatment of the wastewater in Sewage Treatment Plants causedby human or animal medication. In recent years, PPCPs have received acommon attention and some related research by scientific field as well associety.Nowadays, many researchs about sewage treatment of PPCPs byconstructed wetland are reported in foreign, although the research aboutthe removal efficiency on PPCPs in constructed wetland is relatively rare, the use of constructed wetland in sewege treatment has generally gotconstant attention from domestic researchers. In view of this situation, this research project chooses two types ofconstructed wetlands to treat domestic wastewater containing the typicalPPCPs (Norfloxacin and Naproxen). The mechanism of purifying waterquality about natural wetlands includes physical, chemical and biologicalefficiency, which act synergistically. As for constructed wetland, itstrengthens the purification ability of wetland through the artificial controlon the basis of natural wetlands. Our research selects two types ofconstructed wetlands, horizonal flow constrcuted wetland(HFCW) andintergrated vertical flow constrcuted wetland(IVFCW), which adoptedthree kinds of matrices respectively, graval、steam brick and zeolite, tostudy the removal efficiency of trace pollutant, PPCPs in domestic sewageto screen the best one. In the research, domestic sewage was made up artificially accordingto sewage parameters, and added with the trace target drugs, Norfloxacinand Naproxen. Under the hydraulic loading of0.1m~3/m~2.d, the inffluentand effluent water quality would be inspected, including the concentrationof Norfluxacin、Naproxen and conventional water quality index, whichincludes COD, TN, TP and NH+4-N. The removal efficiency of differenttypes of constructed wetlands would be compared. It was found that, forthe removal efficiency of COD, the best one is graval-HFCW; for TN, it iszeolite-IVFCW; for TP, it is steam brick-IVFCW; for NH+4-N, it iszeolite-IVFCW.The results reveal that the average removal efficiency of Norfloxacinis about70%~80%in the inffluent concentration between392.11~686.17μg/L(the average concentration is about500.97μg/L), the optimalwetland is graval or zeolite-IVFCW. The results also show that the averageremoval efficiency of Naproxen is about40%~50%in the inffluentconcentration between1149.7~1652.9μg/L with an averageconcentrations of1523.3μg/L, graval or steam brick-HFCW andzeolite-IVFCW have an similar removal efficiency about49%.Through the ANOVA and the two-way ANOVA based on the researchreslut, we can find out that IVFCW is more efficient on purification thanHFCW. In three kinds of matrices, the zeolite is the best one while brick issuitable for conventional water treatment and gravel fits for the target drug, norfloxacin’s removal. Comparing these six types of constructed wetlands, the zeolite-IVFCW purifies domestic sewage most efficiently.Constructed wetland is worthy further study for it has good removalefficiency, low running cost, convenient management, etc which makes itsgreat prospect in the field of domestic sewage treatment.
