Flange forming process takes an important part in the automotive panel formingprocess. It is very important to get the accurate trimming line size to avoid forming defectssuch as wrinkling, cracking and rebounding. If the flanging design is unreasonable, it willbe very difficult in model testing. So, it is very difficult in getting the accurate trimmingline size and flanging formability analysis. In actual production process, the trimming linesize is gotten by the method of repeated tryout. But, it needs a large amount of manpower,material and financial resources and extends the design cycle greatly. In order to assistdesigners to get the accurate trimming line size and make flanging analysis, deve lopmentof algorithms based on finite element inverse of CAD/CAE integration system whichsupports flange design optimization is necessary.This research is one part of major projects of national NC named:"Developingstamping die in overall side, fender and interior of new environmentally friendly materialsof C-class car"(No.2010ZX04014-072). The research is based on CATIA, developing thesystem which helps the designers to get the accurate trimming line size and make flanginganalysis by CAA second development tool. It greatly improves the efficiency of productdesign.The system of trimming line unfolding and flanging simulation based on CATIA isdeveloped. The system makes full use of the function of property customizing of CATIA,and puts the temp data on specific object node, and makes it convenient to read and writetemp data and parameter updating. Meanwhile, the system takes advantage of the copyingand pasting with link ability of CATIA in defining unfolding area and addendum area. Asa result, it makes the analysis model update with the product model, and makes the systemmore effective. The system uses quadrilateral element which is the major part andtriangular element to express analysis model. It not only expresses analysis model in greatdeal, but also ensures the accuracy of the system. The system provides lots of constraintsdefinition methods. As a result, it is very convenient to define constraints for differentmodel. The system realizes seamless integration between CAE analysis environme nt and CAD platform, and solves the problem of data missing and accuracy loss in traditionanalysis. Through analysis specific use case, the stability and accuracy property of thesystem is proved.
