Amino surfactant becomes more and more popular now due to its nature sourced raw material and mildness in application. The most common synthetic routes are direct synthesis and indirect approach, which is widely used in the commercial production via Schotten-Baumann condensation followed by acidification, separation and neutralization to obtain highly yield amino surfactant. The author investigated indirect synthesis of sodium N-cocoyl glycinate and sodium N-cocoyl methyl taurinate according to customer requirement via Schotten-Baumann reaction, process parameters such as molar ratio, reaction pH and temperature were discussed and optimized to achieve stable and high quality product in large scale. Application performance of these two surfactants, including foaming, rinsability and hard water resistence were evaluated and compared to benchmark samples. |
