Jiangxi Traditional Manual Papermaking Investigation-to Invest The Manual Papermaking In Fengxin Of Shixi Village

China is the first county in the world to have invented the crafts of paper making,as well as the first to make manual paper with bamboo. However, with thedevelopment of global economy and the impact of modern machinery paper making,this ttraditional crafts of paper making is now faced with a serious situation ofprotection and heritage. On the basis of some first-hand investigations of thistraditional crafts of manual bamboo paper in Shixi Village, Fengxin, Jiangxi Province,this paper makes a historical review of the crafts. Besides this, some other respects ofthe crafts are also profoundly discussed and detailed recorded in this paper, such as itsfeature, the raw materials, the procedures, the technical innovation and the presentstate of local traditional crafts. In addition, this paper, linking with the ancient papermaking workshop ruins in the contiguous village Hualin in Gao ’an and crafts ofLianshi paper in Yan Shan, Shangrao, makes some comparison of the two crafts. It isculturally and economically significant in some way to cultivate the quality of thetraditional crafts of manual paper making in Shixi village. It is more importantly tomake appropriate use of local abundant bamboo resources; therefore, we can judgethe demands of market so as to promote the economy in Shixi village.The modern traditional crafts of manual paper making has a development historyof hundreds of years. It was once so flourishing that almost every family in the villagewere making this paper, nut now it declined that only a few families remained canmanage the crafts. Thus, this traditional crafts are in the trouble of how to conserver itand carry it forward. The author begins with several existing problems of thistraditional crafts, and then put forward some proposals on the comprehensiveconservation and transmission of “the imparter and the impartee” and the crafts itselfetc.
