This paper is to design a multi-axis precision machine tool with the function of both machining and inspection, in order to achieve small and precision parts. The machine can complete milling, drilling, grinding. In order to improve the machining accuracy, reduce the non-cutting time, the in-situ testing function is developed. So, the total processing time is shortened, and the scrap rate is reduced. In the design process, electric spindle and linear motor are used to ensure the design requirements, such as high-speed, high rigidity, high precision. In order to enhance the static and dynamic performance, use Workbench to analyse the key components through finite element method, and optimize the beam. In addition, the author takes measures to compensate the error by modeling geometric errors of the machine tools to further improve the accuracy. The conventional cutting is different from micro-cutting, the article explains the impacts of micro-cutting factors, and experimental studies.
