In the context of human large-scale developing and utilizing marine resources, the metal material as an important structural material has been widely applied in the marine environment. However, corrosion and defacing of metallic materials caused by seawater and marine microbial have seriously affected its application in the marine environment. Therefore, in the marine environment effectively protecting the metal material from corrosion and defaced has caused widespread concern. In this paper, firstly the composite powder of TiO2/ZnO with an atomic ratio of Ti to Zn of3/1is prepared through sol-gel process followed by hydrothermal and post-heat treatments. The as-prepared powder is characterized in detail by means of XRD, SEM, TG/DTA and DLS. The results show that by applying the hydrothermal process the crystallinity of the composite powder is significantly improved; No visible variations on particle morphology and size owe to the hydrothermal and post-heat treatments. The enhancement of the photocatalytic activity of the composite powder evaluated through methyl orange (MO) degradation under UV light irradiation is, therefore, attributed to its high crystallinity that is achieved during the hydrothermal process under a rather low temperature.Upon the above studies, the TiO2/ZnO nano films are prepared via sol-gel process followed by hydrothermal treatment and at the same time the TiO2/ZnO porous films are prepared by adding organic in the sol followed by post-heat treatments after coating. The as-prepared films are characterized by XRD, SEM, and EDS. The photocatalytic behavior of the film from organic additive is investigated through photodegradation of methyl orange. The results show that porous films of the TiO2/ZnO composite could be successfully achieved via the two methods; The degradation efficient using the porous film from organic additive as catalyst is significantly higher than that using dense film.In the last part of this paper, the Ni-P coating is electroless deposited on carbon steel surface, the TiO2/ZnO composite films are prepared via sol-gel process on the as-prepared Ni-P coating surface, and then the above coatings are characterized. The results show that in sterilized seawater, the anti-corrosion properties of Ni-P/(TiO2/ZnO) composite coatings are better than the Ni-P coating’s; when the heat treatment temperature is below500℃, the anti-corrosion properties of the Ni-P coating and Ni-P/(TiO2/ZnO) composite coatings is enhanced with the temperature increasing.
