Ring rolling is the advanced manufacturing technology of manufacturing precision seamless ring of various sizes and shapes. Compared with traditional technology, it has many characteristics such as saving forming force and production cost, increasing utilization ratio of energy and material, rising productivity, widening processing range of ring product etc. Vertical ring rolling mill is the common machine for producing small and medium size rings, which widely used in the production of the rings which outside diameter less than1000mm.To improve the yield and quality of rings, a reliable and efficient ring rolling process is indispensable. In the actual production, vertical ring rolling mainly rely on manual control, which dependence on personal experience, with inefficient production efficiency. Consequently, to introduce PLC technology and configuration control technology to the ring rolling process control is very necessary. The PLC has the advantage of constitute simple, configuration flexible, programming convenient, operation reliable etc, which can be applied to different types of control objects and variety of complex environments. Industrial configuration software dependence on it’s monitoring and control function can acquire and supervise the important parameters of the ring rolling process, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of the ring rolling. Furthermore, configuration software has the powerful data processing and communications functions, which is the necessary condition to realize the manufacturing modernization and information management of the ring rolling process.In this paper, based on configuration software microcomputer control technology, combined with PLC technology and sensor technology, the vertical ring rolling mill monitoring and control system work for D51-350was built. The monitoring and control system has the function of data collection, trend analysis, alarm monitoring, system control, data processing, parameters design and report output etc. In the ring rolling process, the production site data can be real-time acquire to the PC, to reflect the entire ring rolling production process intuitively in the trend analysis interface. The monitoring and control system connected to the external database, through which variety of data generated in production process can be online found, called and storied. In the actual production process, the rolling process parameters not only can be inputted manually, but also can be called from the database or generated directly through the parametric design module, which helps the system achieve the automation operations. The entire ring rolling process has been monitored real-time, once the abnormal issues occurred system raised the alarm and took measures timely to ensure the safety of the production.
