With the rapid development of the manufacturing and the improvement of the quality of life, stainless steel is widely used in various fields due to the attractive properties of excellent corrosion resistance, excellent formability, beautiful appearance and good mechanical properties. And304austenitic stainless steel is the one which is widely used, but its work hardening rate is higher and the forming of parts are mostly based on the casting process. But during the casting process, it prone to a variety of casting defects, especially for complex-shaped stainless steel parts and the casting process is more difficult and is likely to result scrap and the material utilization of the casting is low. With the rising prices of stainless steel, the casting process seriously restricted the stainless steel product quality and economic efficiency of enterprises. So engineering industry have to consider the use of more efficient forming process to manufacture the stainless steel parts.In this paper, the precision extrusion forming process of complex stainless steel parts has been studied, using combination methods of numerical simulation and experimental study. Single factor experiment design, orthogonal design and technics experiment were applied to simulate and optimize the initial state and forming process of extrusion, the process parameters of extrusion and other aspects. The purpose of this study is to explore the extrusion law of complex stainless steel parts, to improve the optimization of the extrusion process of such parts and to provide the guidance for the design of forming process in actual production.First, the solution softening treatment process of304austenitic stainless steel has been studied, using comparing experiment. Then it reveal the extrusion law of the part, according to the simulation of extrusion and a single factor method was applied to study the law between forming process parameters and quality of extrusion. And the extrusion forming process of the part was optimized using orthogonal design. Studies show that the initial hardness of blank will meet the minimum when the solution softening treatment process for heating at1100℃for30minutes, followed by stirring cooling in salt solution. And the extrusion will get the best quality when punch speed is8mm/s, friction coefficient is0.25, the thickness of blank is16mm, the thickness of outside wall of the part is4mm, punch radius are1mm,0.8mm and3.3mm in order and the height of the boss of outer wall of punch is20mm. Finally, dies were designed and manufactured according to the solution softening treatment process and the optimization results, adjusting and testing mode. At last, better quality extrusion has been got and it is to verify the study results.
