EPDM is widely used in Automobile, Construction, Electricity, Industry and other fields as it has excellent weather resistance, low temperature performance, good elasticity, low specific gravity and good process operability. Particularly in building materials, EPDM has been increasingly becomes the mainstream sealing material, and EPDM elastic property at low temperatures become a growing concern.This thesis is dedicated to improve the product with good elasticity at low temperature, meanwhile ensure the product in other aspects of the basic performance. could reach the level of conventional varieties. EPDM seal material is complex by chemical cross-linking reaction to be a composite system which is mutual influence and restraining. So, while making the low-temperature-resistant material formulation, choosing a reasonable process route is the key point. Also in developing new productsThis paper discusses the structure and low temperature performance of EPDM sealing for windows and doors and analyzes part of the reason which is impacted the low temperature performance of EPDM sealing. Firstly, the content of EPDM Ethylene affects the low temperature performance, found that if there is45%to60%Ethylene content, the low temperature performance is the best. Secondly, the solidifying point of softener has effect on low temperature performance. Solidifying point of softener the lower, performance the better. Thirdly, some parts of reinforcing agent also impact low temperature performance, such as particle size, surface area, structure. If these parts are small, it will be favorable. Finally, screening out the best curing system which is suitable for low temperature performance is peroxide curing system. Also make use of mixed rubber to optimize the low temperature properties of product. Making a comprehensive assessment of EPDM sealing with using the test means of low-temperature compression set, low-temperature brittleness, low-temperature elastic recovery. From the view of low temperature performance, through many times test to find the best formulation and process route. After improving the low-temperature resistance performance of EPDM seal, it is possible to use EPDM seal in Alpine Region.
