Livestock farming has become a major source of rural environmental pollution in China. Taihu Lake is one of the most important key water bodies in Jiangsu Province and the Yangtze River Delta region. With the rapid development of urban construction, new countryside construction and emerging trend of intensive livestock breeding industry, pollution caused by largescale livestock and poultry breeding has posed a serious threat to Taihu Lake. Studies on the status of pollutants generation, emission, and losses caused by intensive livestock breeding, and its environmental effects to water has great significance in structural adjustment, planning and layout of intensive livestock breeding in Taihu Lake area and its water environment treatment. This thesis caculated the pollutants index of feces and wastewater of pig, cow, and broiler chicken per year, the total amount of pollutants producing and losses (environmental emissions), based on the data by investigation and spot monitoring of pollutants in largescale livestock farms in Wujin District. The characters of pollution losses and pollutants were analised by using equal standard pollution loading method. The results indicated that:(1) The largescale livestock farms in Wujin District produce14,202.65tons of feces and129,338.01tons of wastewater each year, of which the pig farms produce the highest total amount of feces and wastewater accounted for61.01%and96.41%, and the CODCr, TN, TP accounted for93.15%,92.67%and91.26%of the total.(2) The annual emission amount of pollutants in Wujin District is393.12t, consists of324.13t CODCr,62.77t TN, and6.22t TP. The major pollutants resources are pig farms, with41.55%and50.95%pollution loading rate of feces and wastewater respectively. And the broiler breeding farm has the lowest pollution loading rate, only0.46%.(3) The equal standard losses amount of TN and TP caused by largescale livestock farms in Wujin District are62.77×106m3/a and31.10×106m3/a, respectively57.02%and28.26%of the total. And the major source of pollutants is pig breeding, with equal standard amount of feces and watstewater respectively counting to37.87%and54.75%of the total.(4) The comprehensive losses rate in Wujin District is6.83%, with an equal standard pollution index of0.74, which is17.7%of the Changzhou City. And pig farms produced the amount of pollutants contributed as much as93.01%, which generate waste and sewage pollution loading rates were75.24%and17.77%, and its equal standard pollutant loading rate was92.62%. The pollution losses of feces and wastewater of pig farms were respectively41.55%and50.95%of the total amount. And their equal standard pollutant emissions amount of feces and wastewater accounted37.87%and54.75%of the total, indicating feces applied to fields and sales has approached great reduction of the load on the environment.
