Million tons of waste rubbers, which have been known as the black pollution, are abandoned every year. This induced to the serious environment damage and resource waste because of their non-biodegradability and corrosion resistance. Polystyrene (PS) modified by waste rubber powders (WRP) were prepared in order to improve the recycle of waste rubbers and produce the high-value composite materials. In the thesis, the modified polystyrene materials were prepared by the extrusion pelletizing form the blending materials of PS,80mush WRP and toughening agent, etc. on a twin-screw extruder. The standard samples were further made by the injection molding of the modified polystyrene and characterized. The influences of the feed weight ratio of WRP, SBS, and various additives, the process and parameters on the material properties were also studied. The mechanical properties including the impact strength and toughness, and breaking elongation of polypropylene modified by WRP decreased according to the increase of the feed weight ratio of WRP/PS. However, the breaking elongation of polypropylene modified by WRP increased and came to reach the balance value with the increase of the feed weight ratio of WRP/PS as20.Titanate was used as a coupling agent to increase the toughness and the interface compatibility between PS and WRP. The best mechanical properties of the modified PS can be reached when the feed weight ratio of titanate/PS was2. SBS was also used as a toughening agent to obviously improve the toughness of the modified PS and the interface compatibility between PS and WRP.Dicumyl peroxide (DCP) improved the flow properties and processability. However, WRP and SBS reduced the heat resistance of modified PS. Experimental data indicated that the best mechanical properties of the modified PS can be reached when the feed weight ratio of WRP/PS was40, the feed weight ratio of titanate/PS was2, and the feed weight ratio of SBS/PS was20.
