The co-rotating twin-screw extruder, TSW for short, was one of themostly widely-used continuous mixing rubber equipments. The parametersD_o/D_i and specific torque were critical index to measure the performance ofTSW. Nowadays, German company Leistritz had developed D_o/D_i=1.6TSW,while Coperion had developed18specific torque ones. The D_o/D_i of thecommon domestic TSW was1.55, and the specific torque was between8.7and11.3Nm/cm3. The transmission system was the core restriction factor ofperformance promotion. In this paper, a set of D_o/D_i-1.8,11.3-special-torquespecial gear box was developed, and contents which were considered tofurther promote the transmission performance were to be discussed. Mainresearch contents of the paper were as follows:1. Determination of the gearbox structure. The transmission structure wasdetermined by analyzing the structure of transmission system and stress stateof the gears on the output axises. The design and verification of transmissionsystem and gear-box model analysis were completed.2. Intelligent control requirements of the transmission system. The PID control flow graph was designed based on control demands of the large-typepelleting machines.3. Optimization design of sleeve type tandem thrust bearings. Bearingsmeeting the design requirements were designed via optimization design of theparameters combing BP neutral network, ANSYS simulation and optimizationdesign theory. Part of the research results were experimentally verified.4. Modification of transmission gears. The gear-modification mechanismwas studied deeply by finite element method in this paper.Proper modificationmethods and corresponding parameters were choosed to modify the gears inthe transmission system.
