Paper coating layer of ink-jet papers can absorb ink with a network structure which formed by pigments, adhesive and some assistants. In the process of ink dots from the printer to the paper, then formation images and words, the coated structure played a very crucial role. So we can say the key technologies of InkJ et Paper are coated micro-structure. Therefore, researching the relationship between paper coated microstructure and paper properties is significance to paper producers.First, the paper performance under the condition of different PVA dosages were measured, including brightness, opacity, roughness, permeability, absorption, and ink density, tone, image sharpness. This helped linking the performance of ink-jet paper to the PVA dosages. By analyzing, the best PVA dosages were achieved. At the base of this, the coated paper was pressed at the different calendering condition. The influences of calendering conditions on the performance of ink-jet paper were concluded. Finally, the mercury intrusion method was used to detect the pore structure of different samples, though parameters like porosity、pore size and pore size distribution, trying to understand the internal relation between coated pore structure and the performances of ink-jet paper.The results indicated that:with the PVA dosages increasing, the surface pore size and media pore size were decreased; Color reproduction of image was decreased. In this experience, the best ratio of PVA and pigment is15:100, the more PVA dosages brought the bad role and the less PVA caused low surface strength. At the same time, the research about calender condition shown that porosity was increased with the calender pressure, and thickness、roundness、permeability all decreased, gloss、ink density increased. To calendar temperature, brightness、opacity、thickness、roundness、permeability decreased with the temperature increased. From the dates of pore structure, it can be concluded that the pore structure and paper properties have a very good correlation. With average pore size increased, ink roundness value closed to1,the ink density gradually increased, air permeability and absorbability decline; and brightness、roundness、permeability all decreased. Increasing pore volume will caused high ink density, high permeability and good absorbability.
