With the rapid development of society, people’s requirements of energy is increasing; Meanwhile as the consumption of oil and coal increases, people come to realize the importance of energy. Today, people found a new alternative energy oil shale, the research of that is important. This paper instructed the oil shale development, oil shale utilization, and potential problem in comprehensive utilization of oil shale. Oil shale has a low calorific value and ash content of large unconventional oil and gas resources, rational utilization of oil shale developed rock is a major problem to, which is mainly used in refining and power generation. As for the use of oil shale, oil refining distillation method is mainly divided into the underground and above-ground retorting. Ground retorting has formed a mature technology means, but its drawbacks including energy consumption, low utilization and the surrounding environment adversely influence. While underground is a new refinery distillation method, its advantages are obvious, relatively high utilization rate, low energy consumption, almost no impact on the surrounding environment, but its technology is still not perfect.About the pores, the pores is divided into different types by people, and there are corresponding means to study pore distribution accordingly. Because the fractal of rocks, consider porosity division, choose the appropriate means of measurement, reuse appropriate fractal theory, exactly pore structure of the sample material can be obtained. The study of oil shale characteristics are mainly from the microscopic pores aspects. This paper analyzes the mechanism of pyrolysis of oil shale and oil shale research variation of pore structure at different temperatures. The use of mercury method microscopic pore distribution of oil shale respectively study the characteristics of oil shale in20℃,100℃,200℃,300℃,400℃,500℃,600℃, observe shale pore volume, pore size distribution and porosity. According to tests showed that the density of oil shale will continue to decline as the temperature increases. Oil shale pore volume also increases with increasing temperature, while the temperature variation of the process, the apertures (0.1μm to1μm) and the orifice (0.01μm to0.1μm) are always distributed in a relatively stable state.Errors may occur in mercury experiments, such as mercury test is based on two assumptions, namely the assumption that the pores are circular holes and assuming rock pore openings in the surface of the rock, errors may occur when use different type of material under the two assumptions, some errors are negligible, however some other errors are significant.
