Ceramsite,with a light weight,high cylinder pressure,high porosity,good fire resistance,good thermal insulation,good frost resistance,and excellent alkali aggregate reactivity.lt can replace gravel as the light weight aggregate,and it is widely used in building materials.It can be used to produce ceramsite concrete blocks,concrete wall panels and other structural materials.It is also widely used in gardening,water treatment,filtration and absorption.In recent years,the ceramsite has more and more applications,it become fastest-growing one of the new building materials in China.There are large amounts of waste produced in the process of production in industry,which named Manganese tailings that causes environmental pollution.There is not a good treatment for the Manganese tailings,From the perspective of environmental protection, this study produce sintering ceramsite that can use widely,which is an effective way for the resource recycling of Manganese tailings.The results of this study are as follows:1. The main chemical composition of the manganese tailings is:SiO2(34.98%) and Al2O3(9.66%),with high volatile(28.86%); the main composed phase is quartz and illite; manganese tailings powder particle size are small,and the average particle size is87.89μm; thermal phase transition temperature is low. Manganese tailings can basically meet the requirements of sintered Ceramisite with this composition and phase characteristics2. To prepare the building ceramsite with sintering process, the optimum conditions:feeding at850℃, firing at is1140℃for60minutes,according to the principles for making building aggregates; the physical properties are asfollows:packing density is0.882g/cm3, water absorption is4%,tube compressive strength is9.5MPa, which can reach the standard of GB GB/T17431.2-998.3. The best conditions of the Manganese Tailings Ceramisites filter are as follows:eeding at1050℃, firing at1140℃for60minutes; It has a large wateradsorption (32%);degreasing rate is65%. The ceramsite has excellent Performance as water treatment media.4. The analysis result shows that the manganese tailings has the characteristics to prepare sintering ceramsite,such as small particle size, containing illite minerals;r;its high ignition loss producing large amounts of bubbles when sintering wich causes the bloating; it has created favorable conditions for sintering at lower temperatures and expansion with moderate SiO2and Al2O3content, higher iron and manganese content..
