Population data and GDP data from local statistics is collected and saved basedon administrative region. As a traditional method of spatial data expression, averageor summation distribution in every administrative region brings statistical data on alow spatial and temporal precision. Now, an accurate statistical data with high spatialresolution is becoming more and more important in regional planning, environmentprotection, policy making and rural-urban development. To some extent, statisticaldata is spatialzed comply with its actual distribution rule, and is beneficial to establishstandard GIS database. Therefore, the study on it is of great actual importance. In this article, the author reviewed the progress of research on spatial distributionof population and GDP. Under the support of GIS, correlative geographical theoriesand Grid data model, spatial data selected and statistical data were applied to calculatethe spatial distribution of population in Shandong province, which includes followingparts:①Determination of grid size. In order to obtain data sets with uniform format, aswell as to achieve the spatial overlay operations, the vector data must be converted toraster data with a certain spatial resolution. Comprehensive consideration of the studypurpose and the accuracy loss of conversion process, this paper select the grid size as100m.②Quantitative analysis between statistical data and the impact factors.According to the result of previous studies and the study area’s condition, the authorselects impact factors which affect the distribution of population and GDP inShandong province. Under the support of ArcGIS and SPSS, the author analyzed the quantitative relationship between these factors with the population and GDP, in orderto calculate the parameter values of these factors based on the raster data model.③The spatial distribution of statistics data. Every raster grid’s parameter valuesof the population and GDP would be calculated by the method calledproduct-integration. Then by the method of interpolation within administrativeboundaries, the author establish the population density surface and average GDPsurface with 100 m grid size, in Shandong Province.④Error testing and results analysis. This paper analyzes the error characteristicsof the simulation results. Then, based on the correlation analysis between parametersand error, the author discusses the causes of the simulation error. Finally, the authorevaluates the simulation results, and analyzes the general characteristics of populationand GDP distribution, in Shandong Province.
