The dynamic characteristics of the force measurement system have important implications ondynamic cutting force test results. And the system natural frequency of commercial dynamometersoften declines sharply after clamping the workpiece. The paper is aimed at measuring high-speedmilling force, with the financial assistance from National Basic Research Program of China (973Program)(No.2009CB724401). The high frequency three-dimensional milling force test platform hasbeen designed and manufactured, with the structure and force measurement in one piece. Majorresearch work as following:(1)The paper is aimed at the high-frequency impact properties of the high speed millingprocess. It is based on additional elastic element force method and finite element analysis results. Thetest platform main structure has been designed and manufactured by6061aluminum alloy. Thenatural frequency of the main structure has been detected by hammering method and it satisfies therequirements that the natural frequency is more than7,000Hz and the sensitivity is more than1.5με/N(2) The hardware system of the high frequency three-dimensional milling force test platformhas been build and the resistance strain gauge bridges has been finished. And the software system ofthe test platform has been programmed by LabVIEW8.5. That is the data acquisition and processingsystem of three-dimensional dynamic cutting force, consisting of milling force data acquisition,real-time display, data storage and data analysis.(3)The stress distribution of the test platform has been simulated by the finite element softwareANSYS10.0.The static cutting force calibration of the test platform has been finished. When thespindle speed ranging from2000r/min to14000r/min, the milling force signals of the test platformand Kistler9265B dynamometer have been comparative analyzed. The test platform also measured themilling force ranging from30000r/min to35000r/min. The results show that the test platform meetsthe test requirements of high speed milling force.
