Using a1.5-layer reduced-gravity shallow-water model studies the hysteresis ofa Western Boundary Current leaping across a gap when it is at critical state. Findwhich different from the QG model is the rossby radius of deformation has anobvious effect on the hysteresis region.Setting up analogical parameters corresponding to the Luzon Strait, study thewind jets-induced the WBC variability in the Luzon Strait when it nears the criticalstates, the results are consistent with the study results of Zhong Shenlei in ideal case.In the real case related to real bottom and real wind jets, the experiments suggest that, winter (summer) wind jets can induce the Kuroshio path from the leaping (periodicpenetrating) regime to the periodic penetrating (leaping) regime. The dynamics of thepath transition is related to the hysteresis of the Kuroshio in the Luzon Strait, whereby multiple steady states exist in the nonlinear system so that the path of theKuroshio cannot return to its initial state after the external force is removed. Theexperiments Point that the PengHu topography plays an important role in theKuroshio periodic eddy shedding state.
