This years, optical vortex is a very important optical field, it’s valuable and been widely studied, it’s fundamental research involves many important physics study, like orbital angular momentum of light, wave front, space interference and time interference. The quality of optical vortex is cylindrical symmetry in propagation, the vortex core of this light is dark, the intensity stays0when the propagate in the media. In this paper. The phase front of optical vortex is spiral. We mainly study the formation of optical vortex and its propagation in proper optical materials. At first, the fork gratings are made by computer-generated-holography (CGH) and the optical vortex beams carrying different topological charge can be generated. And then we launched the propagation of the optical vortex beam in a kind of amorphous bulk composites which were prepared by doping azo-dye Disperse Red13(DR13) in poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) matrices. We realized the first observation of self-trapping of an optical vortex based on the photo-induced molecules reorientation in bulk poly(methyl methacrylate) materials containing photosensitive azo-dye molecules. The dependence of the average core width of a single-charge optical vortex versus time and input power was investigated in detail.
