Jiaocheng Fault is located in the middle of Shanxi graben system and it is the masterboundary fault of Shanxi Fault Basin. Since last1970s, ground fissures had occurred alongthe Jiaocheng Fault Zone, and until now they have become the longest and larger groundfissure belt in China. Along the line, ground fissure has been the main geological disaster,causing significant damages and threats to local rural and urban constructions as well as theliving environments of residents.This article has a deep understanding toward Jiaocheng Fault’s geological tectonicenvironment background through widely collecting related geological materials andcomprehensively using various kinds of technology methods and means. Though the detailedfield survey and overall arrangement of Qingxu—Jiaocheng—Wenshui ground fissures’development characteristics which act strongly along the Jiaocheng Fault Belt, this article hassummarized ground fissures’ distribution rules and profile features, revealed their disastercharacteristics, explored their disaster failure mechanism as well, and analyzed thedisaster-driver conditions and formation models of Jiaocheng Fault ground fissures at the end.Based on these, formation mechanism of the line ground fissures is studied. The mainresearch results obtained are as follows:(1) Geological and geomorphic environment which is induced by Jiaocheng Fault groundfissures and the fault structure background are analyzed through a lot of data collection.(2) With the detailed field survey, intermittent extensions of the ground fissures, whichare developed along the Jiaocheng Fault Qingxu—Jiaocheng—Wenshui ground fissures in thewest side of Taiyuan Basin, are confirmed as46km for the first time, their distribution anddevelopment characteristics are found as well.(3) Large scale (1:1000) ground fissures’ distribution plans in typical development areasare drawn, in which ground fissures’ plane geometry form, distribution and damage status areclearly showed and project disaster-causing mechanisms are announced.(4) With the help of trial trench and geophysical prospecting and other technical means,the underground development status of Jiaocheng Fault ground fissures is studied, revealingand discovering their profile features.(5) Based on the analysis of fault structure, groundwater withdraw, heavy rainfall andother influence factors, disaster-driver conditions and formation models of Jiaocheng Faultground fissures are explored and their formation mechanism is analytical investigated.
