The value of land subsidence is larger than its allowable value in the construction of south section ofXi’an metro line2, which can affect the construction and even stop it. In order to investigate the cause ofland subsidence, intensive research can be conduced in this paper.In the area where there are no ground fissures, pumping ground water is generally considered to be thecause of land subsidence in Xi’an. However, there are ground fissures and Lin tong-Chang’an fault in southsection of metro line2. The key in this problem is whether Lintong–Chang’an fault or ground fissures candetermine the value of land subsidence, which is also the main point in this paper.Engineering geological characteristics in this section have been investigated by ground investigation.In it, a drill is made to investigate the distribution of stratum.Many data including level monitoring, InSAR, land subsidence in history and Lintong-Chang’an faulthave been collected. According to them, the character of land subsidence and Lintong-Chang’an isobtained.The relationship among confined water, ground fissures, land subsidence and Lintong-Chang’an faultis determined by the analysis of correlation and mechanics mechanism and then the cause of landsubsidence is concluded.This study can solve the problem of land subsidence in the construction of south section of Xi’anmetro line2and offer theoretic basis of prevention and treatment.
